i decided to go back to Ueno, and as this little boy, maybe 6 years old, passed me to get off, he smiles warmly at me and bows slightly. i bowed back, and.. its weird, but this simple gesture done with complete sincerity brought tears to my eyes.

this was kind of bizarre to see... i dont believe i have witnessed as many protests in japan as in 2008. this particular one seemed to be calling into question the government's attitude toward the global financial crisis.its odd because i so seldomly see japanese displaying a strong opinion in public... which leads me to think that these people must be pretty peeved to elicit such a display. and

hahahaso this morning i ended up being "that" guy. the guy who didn't quite make it on the train in time, and had to struggle with the door as it had closed on him. the guy with the umbrella sticking through the door. and the same guy whose door-stuck umbrella becomes the object of fancy for the five hundred people waiting at the next station.
